It is with deep sadness that we learn of the death of your loved one. The entire parish community of Saint Vincent’s grieves with you and extends to you our deepest sympathy and prayers. One of the greatest sources of consolation to a family at the time of death is the spiritual support provided by the funeral liturgy. It is through the prayers of the Church, the readings of Sacred Scripture, and celebration of the Eucharist that death is seen not as an end, but as the beginning of a new life with God.
The involvement of a family in the choosing of readings, the selection of music and the designation of people for the various roles assumed at Mass helps the process of grieving and allows the family full participation in the liturgical life of the Church. We are confident that you will take advantage of this opportunity, to the extent of your comfort. If at any time you are in need of assistance, please reach out to me and ask. From time to time, there are families who do not wish to select all of the options available, and this is perfectly fine. I will be happy to make selections for you in that case that are appropriate for your particular celebration.
On this page you will find a variety of appropriate readings and music to assist you in planning for the Liturgy. If you have any questions about these selections, please let us know. Please note that Words of Remembrance are permitted, however they should be brief (no more than 3-5 minutes in length) and should center around the faith of your loved one. An advance copy would be most appreciated (if possible), as it will help me in preparing for my Homily.
May the Risen Lord bring eternal life to your loved one and a sense of peace to those who remain behind.
